Chelsea? If he goes there he is a massive contradiction. He wants to play Champions League.

We should absolutely demand his full value on the way Leicester did with Maguire and Fofana, and Brighton did with Cucurella. He’s the best holding midfielder in the world, as a bare minimum.

Good point. I'm sure their fans will demand a 'splash' in the transfer market as well this summer.

Personally I think it would be a bad move for him long term. I do think Arsenal have profited a bit from a very weak 'big four' this season, with all but Man City having pretty appalling seasons. I expect them all to be stronger next time round and Arsenal to slip back a bit, but we'll see.

I actually wonder if Newcastle could be one out of leftfield. If their owners can sweet talk him with their future plans on the pitch and in the transfer market. Probably more likely he wants to go somewhere he can win trophies now though, rather than wait 3-4 years.

El - I think Arsenal could raise the money for Rice, will have CL income next season, etc.

Yeah, could well be actually. IMO he's a 100 million player, especially given his age and the comparison to other players who have gone for similar or more money. With a homegrown quota his value is likely even more to an English side as hell play week in week out. Only thing is given his price tag, destination options are limited.

Given Klopp's recent moaning and crying poverty, they can't afford him, Arsenal likely can't. Chelsea obviously can but will have to offload a tonne of players. Man City is where he probably should go but arguably they are the one side who don't need him with Rodri there already. Man U already have Casemiro, but he is 31 so there is a possibility.

I'd like him to go to Real or Barcelona, TBH. He'll really carry on developing there. Likely Real may be the only continental side who an afford him. Bayern probably can't, and although PSG can, I think he'd be mad to join that shitshow.

Really can't work out where he lands, TBH. I'm going to guess Chelsea or Man U.

the precedent wasn't there back then like is it now. once average players like maguire go for £80m, the game has changed. If they don't want to pay, someone else wi!l

Any Rice deal will probably be like the Dicks transfer, throw in a few quid at us and a couple of cast offs. I could see arsenal giving us someone like Tierney, Nelson and some spare change so we get ripped off as per usual

Well said TM - he clearly cares about the club, and we're a much better team with him in it. Great to see him playing with a smile on his face again too.

Seems Bowen is back to his best too, even saying as much himself on the official site.

Results build confidence, and hopefully after one defeat in five ours keeps on growing from here on in.

they should go and watch watch the fulham game, where he was even better. the lad is as genuine as they come, works his bollocks off and well worth the £80m+ someone will have to spend.

Scorch, I think some of it is to maybe drive his suspected price down in the media, the likes of Arsenal for instance know they won’t go toe to toe on fee with some clubs….I notice the comparing can be worse when he’s had a stand out game against one of the big boys/contenders for the title……could be wrong though….it feels like they are telling West Ham to keep it sensible….he’s not a Gerrard etc, etc…

We will certainly miss him when he's gone. Absolute world class player.

Yeah, there's some sort of insistence that he has to be absolute box to box, defend like Makelele, pass like Carrick, attack and create like Gerrard or Scholes and score like Lampard to be considered 'proper' good. I think some of it comes from that old soak Souness's constant vocal insistence that he's not that good and should be a centre back. (Which I think has actually got into his head a bit, and he's been tryin too hard to be all those things to his detriment and maybe the team's) There has recently been quite a few pundits defending him and stating the opposite that he doesn't need to do all that and is world class as he is which is refreshing.

He does what he does and he's fucking great at it. My feeling is like all the the players especially this season he's not able to play to his full potential. You can bet your bottom dollar when he does move to a top team, all this criticism will stop, magically. And if he went to Liverpool Souness would all of a sudden be wanking himself dry over him.

ED - Fine, so stop making things up to suit your argument, it's poor from. Nobody is gong mental about yesterday, the same as I don't think anyone is mental who thinks we might go down, even if they are wrong.

And another thing - There's still a few people and pundits about that slate Rice for not being the 'perfect' midfielder. Well, as far as I am concerned, yesterday was the 'perfect' performance from a midfielder. You won't see better.

Positive's:

Great comeback. A performance of passion, spirit and fight. We looked much better going forward and played with purpose and intent. Had good energy right up to end and matched them for intensity. An excellent performance.

Should give us the confidence to win a few more games to make us safe.

Negatives:

Such a tepid and average start. Conceding two poor goals. Cresswell looking at Benrahma who was looking at Kerher all with their hands in the air. Didn't look like they had a clue who was supposed to be doing what.

What I find weird is that I've not seen anyone who's said or suggested they're disappointed that we didn't get thrashed, or have I missed something?

It is weird that there are West Ham supporters who seem to be disappointed that we didn’t get thrashed yesterday. The impression given is that some would be happy for us to get relegated so that they can say “I told you so!” Maybe that is not their position, but it is how it comes across.

I think most people are simply celebrating a fine two goal comeback against the league leaders. I don’t see many (if any) getting carried away – just happy with the effort that the players put in to earn a deserved point in that game.

It’s possible to be against the manager but still want the team to do well enough to survive the season.
